Darwinian Effect
We’re familiar with the concept of a Freudian slip, where someone says something that reveals their unconscious thoughts or feelings. But there’s another, a much more powerful, indicator of one’s inner world.
While it may not be as widely recognized, a Darwinian slip refers to a verbal or non-verbal cue that reveals a primal or instinctual response, often linked to survival, self-preservation, or competition.
In many ways, a Darwinian slip can be even more revealing than a Freudian slip, as it exposes the deepest, most primal aspects of human nature. And yet, it’s less talked about and often overlooked.
Take this example: What’s behind Dana White’s continuous lip-licking behaviour, eerily reminiscent of a lizard’s instinctual action? Could it be a Darwinian slip, revealing a primal drive or instinct that’s not immediately apparent?
While Freudian slips offer a glimpse into our unconscious mind, Darwinian slips may reveal something even more fundamental – our primal connection to …. – to what?
